Homelab
Welcome to my homelab. It started a few years ago with an outdated HP desktop and a TrueNAS Scale install, and has since grown into a multi-node Proxmox cluster with dedicated backup infrastructure, a rack’s worth of networking gear, and more self-hosted services than I can count. It hasn’t been easy all of the time. I have brought down the family network enough times along the way that I am the first suspect in every internet outage. In the end, I have learned so much from it. It has been one of my passions that I don’t get tired of. There are so many different options from building and running through cyber labs, self-hosted docker services, and experimenting with hardware. I haven’t been able to pin down one specializaiton, but I think having so many options helps me to stay productive with my tendency to get bored of a topic.
Browse the categories below for hardware builds, infrastructure write-ups, how the lab coexists with the rest of the household, the tools that make it all manageable, and the self-hosted apps running day to day.

Hardware
- Meshtastic
Meshtastic LoRa radios for off-grid mesh networking — open-source, no monthly fees, and perfect for hiking where cell coverage drops.
- Raspberry Pi 5
Setting up a Raspberry Pi 5 with PoE, NVMe SSD, Tailscale, and portable tools for on-the-go homelab access.
- Home Lab Redesign pt. 1 Hardware
Mapping out the hardware for a homelab redesign — Sophos firewall, managed switches, Synology NAS, and multiple mini PCs.
Infrastructure
- OPNsense
OPNsense as my primary firewall — Suricata IDS/IPS, Unbound DNS, VLANs, and lessons learned from years of configuration.
- Proxmox Virtual Environment
My experience with Proxmox VE — from VirtualBox migration to CEPH clusters and back to a simpler multi-node setup.
- Home Lab Redesign pt. 2
Network layout, IP address management tools, and the journey from sticky notes to phpIPAM to Netbox.
Family
- My Home Lab Addiction
Four years of homelab building — the money, the time, the broken networks, and why it has been worth every frustration.
